Before any new floor goes down, the old one has to come out - and that step gets skipped over in most flooring guides even though it's often the messiest, most disruptive part of the whole project. Here's exactly what our old-floor removal process looks like.
Step 1: Containment
Before a single piece of old flooring comes up, we seal off the work area with plastic sheeting to keep dust and debris out of the rest of the house - especially important on tile demo, which is the dustiest removal job there is.
Step 2: Removal
Old flooring comes out room by room. Vinyl and laminate typically pull fastest; tile and hardwood take longer because of adhesive or fastener removal underneath. We're careful around baseboards, cabinetry, and door trim so nothing needs repainting after we leave.

Step 3: Subfloor Inspection
Once the old material is gone, we check the subfloor for moisture, cracks, and level. Florida's humidity means we're especially alert for moisture staining under old tile or hardwood - anything we find gets addressed with a proper floor repair before new flooring ever touches that spot.
Step 4: Haul-Away
Old material and debris leave with us at the end of the job - we don't leave a dumpster sitting in your driveway in Largo, Seminole, or wherever the job is.
How Long It Takes
For a typical single room, removal adds a few hours to the schedule. For a whole-house job with tile throughout, removal alone can take a full day before installation even starts - which is why most whole-house projects run 1-2 days total once removal is factored in.

Will removal damage my subfloor?
Our crew is trained to remove old material without damaging the subfloor underneath. If we do find existing damage, we'll flag it and quote the repair before moving forward - never a surprise mid-job.
Do you remove old flooring even if I'm not hiring you to install new floors yet?
In most cases removal and installation are quoted and scheduled together as one job so the subfloor is protected the whole way through.
